Fuzzy (downy) little carpenter at the peanut feeder. 😉

Comedor velloso de cacahuates! And a cute one, too!
Birds are such a wonderful, fragile delicate beauty.
I didn’t realize they were peanut eaters. This is a good shot. Did you take the shot below?
I want to see a bird like that in my backyard!!!!! Got my binocs out the other day…have some big plans for March!
Mary: I’d bet you could get these birds with the right feeder. What are these big plans you have for March?
😉
Sandy: No – not my pic – are you kidding? 😉 They like peanuts, but I think they prefer suet.
Silverlight: They are beautiful!
Bunnygirl: Yes, he is cute.
Laura – we’ve been living in our house for a year. I have only have two feeders and one of them is for hummingbirds. They attract a lot of birds but Michael insists on buying bargain feed. We’re going back to the premium song bird food that they love (smells fruity and nutty) and I’ll frequent Wild Bird for more tips and feeders. We have a lot of foliage already, but I want to add more berry bushes and flowering plants in the right places and add more feeders. It’s great to see the doves and others bathe in the pond. Goal: Feb-March.
Nice photo! I find that the downys by my house are almost impossible to photograph. They are very skittish, and they’re always on the other side of the tree for me. I had one sitting on my platform feeder (which has some peanuts in the Wiscoy’s Best feed I use–a local animal feed vendor, big on birding) on Saturday! But of course I didn’t get the camera up in time…. Next lifer goal: pileated!
Mary: Sounds like big plans! That bargain seed does tend to attract unsavory characters. 😉
dguzman: Good luck with the pileated! I was thrilled to see a red-headed woodpecker two years ago, which I think are tougher to get here in NJ, but still no luck on the pileated.
I have GOT to get a peanut feeder! Now that Ruby can keep the squirrels away, it’s a MUST!!!
