I love watching them glide effortlessly just above the water.
I did see one in the Florida keys trying to scoop up a fish larger than its bill could hold. I did more than smile while I watched.
I have a postcard with that very limerick on my bulletin board over my computer. It always makes me smile…
I couldn’t get enough of the California Brown Pelicans on our recent holiday. My daughter thought I was quite mad!
I love it, but we have the white pelicans here and they are helican on the trout during the spawning runs. This year the Dept. of Fish and Game tried to destroy their nests as they are so destructive.
Brown Pelicans just off the Endangered list … didn’t I just read that?
LOLOL… LOVE that Laura!
Now that is a cool poem. Thanks!
You quoted one of my favorite verses. They do make us smile, don’t they?
Umm…yeah. I worked at a seabird sanctuary for six months in FL and spent 12 hours a day working with pelicans. Trust me, they’re much nicer from a distance and I have the scars to prove it so yeah, I’m not smiling – yet. Oh OK, I still like them. š
I love Pelicans too. I especially love seeing them occupy every pole on the docks and then flying in formation. Nice picture.

Just me rambling about birds, books, bunnies, or whatever!
