Imagine my surprise to have found these little ducklings on a December morning… none of the adult ducks seemed ready to claim them and they were more than willing to follow me around peeping. They started my day of hunting the local ponds for ducks with lots of giggles. Aren’t they sweet?
Lovely photographs. “Are You my Mother?” was my daughter’s very favorite book when she was little. She just loved it, and so do I.
Awww, my Johnny loved “Are You My Mother” too. He’s over six feet tall now.
(lump in my throat)
I agree with Lynne—Awwww.
And with NCMW–my kids LOVED “Are You My Mother.”
Is this pond near you? Can you check to see if there are adult ducks around? It’s getting mighty cold for motherless ducklings.
All: It was a favorite for me, too.
KGMom: It is near and there were plenty of adult ducks around…
(shrug)
I’m not sure who they belonged to. Maybe mallards?
What kind of duck is nesting NOW?
But who cares. That’s cuteness-on-a-stick.
Little cuties! So did any of the ducks claim them before you left?
They are just too cute. But isn’t it rare for there to be young ones around at this time of year?
Laura: Adorable! i hope these little ducklings found their mom eventually. They look like a mallard/tame duck cross.
Carolyn H.
Heck fire, what was their mom thinking, the hussy! :c) How old do you think they are Laura? Will they survive the winter?
Very cute! Like you, I’m surprised to see them in December.
Poor things. And they look cute 🙂
Oh Laura, those ducklings are so cute! I hope they’re OK with winter coming on.
We’ve been watching the original Disney short cartoon of the Ugly Duckling. It’s a classic, and one of the better Disney Cartoons. My favorite? Dumbo!
Just thinking about these poor baby ducks…could they be a product of a local elementary school? A teacher can buy eggs and incubate them to “educate” their students and then they end up letting them go free!
Oh no! Where will they go? (You know these kinds of things really hit me in the guts!)
I think I may cry now.
