Luka’s turning one next month… it’s hard now to remember that he was ever this small and cute!
Just when I start believing that he’s very smart and well-trained… he’s learned to retrieve his own collar and leash from the table when we let him out of his crate to go pee… he does something incredibly pupply-like and stupid. The other morning I stepped out of the shower to find him sprawled on the couch eating a bar of Neutrogena soap, wrapper and all! You know the nice soap, from a hotel, that was sitting in a bag on the top of my desk? Right. He retrieved it.
He eats rocks… why should I be surprised that he’ll eat soap, too!
BDP!
But who can’t love a face like that? And clean, too!
What a lovely picture. And Luka is doing what every one-year-old dog does…well behaved one instant and impulsive the next. The puppy-like and stupid things will almost certainly occur in front of other people who believe you have no control over your dog.
She is a marvelous girl.
Oops! I meant HE is a marvelous BOY! My dogs are girls so I assume all other dogs are female as well.
Sorry Luka!
There is hope, Laura! He will improve! What a goofball. Soap? Yuck! Giggling!
Crazy dog. Gotta love him.
Laura,
I’ve been enjoying Luka’s adventures. He will improve! Our black lab Jake is now almost 4 and has made enormous progress. He still has a taste for eyeglasses and remote controls, however. In another year he should be perfect.
I wanted to tell you about a book I received as a gift. It’s called Black is Beautiful A Celebration of Dark Dogs. As you may know, black dogs are usually the last to be adopted at shelters. The profits of this book will be donated to the SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George’s County Maryland and other selected animal welfare organizations. Check it out at http://www.pgspca.org/store
That’s probably not all you would be surprised that he eats. 🙂 Sorry.
I have not known many labs–and I have never had one–but the labs that I have known ate ANYTHING, and Luka seems to continue with the lab trait.
Beautiful picture.
My chocolate lab was 3 months old Friday. I’ve read your adventures (and misadventures) with Luka and look forward to my own.
The Bunns: Huh?
Bunnygirl: Yeah… he knew how to work that puppy cuteness to the limit.
NCMountainWoman: Ha! I have no control over him whatsoever most of the time. He’s usually a good boy anyway… except for the always eating stuff.
Liza: Have I mentioned that he loves hay?
Delia: Yep.. I’m helpless.
Anonymous: Thanks for the bit of hope that I should only have to wait another 4 years or so.
lol!
Thanks for the book suggestion. Interesting to me that black dogs have a hard time being adopted. With bunnies it’s the same thing – usually the whites that are considered ‘too plain’ tho people also don’t like the red eyes much. I’ve learned to love them tho. One of these days I’ll have a red-eyed white bunny.
Dave: Not much would surprise me. I have to keep the bunnies’ litterboxes out of his reach because he thinks of that as a particularly yummy delicacy.
KGMom: Yeah, but rocks and soap and charcoal?
Cindie: Hi and thanks for commenting! Yeah… you’re in for it – that chocolate is gorgeous!
Silly Pup….and just when you thought it might be safe to leave something lying around. At least Neutrogena doesn’t have a lot of yucky chemicals and additives!
