Whatever… it’s Friday!

This photo of a Quaker style bedroom from the mansion at Walnford was taken a while ago; I’d meant to get back there this spring to search for wildflowers along the creek and in the surrounding woods, but haven’t made it there yet. The bluebells are probably just about done already and any trips to the woods now will be focused on birds rather than wildflowers. At any rate, I love this photo for its peaceful feel.

My *birding* this week has been sadly limited. Limited to a few minutes in the driveway as I leave for work and then whatever new birds I hear on the walk from the parking lot into the office. House wrens are back for a week or so now, but they’re not singing non-stop just yet here at home. This week I heard the first sweet song of a Baltimore Oriole and this morning there was a Catbird mewing from the evergreens near where I park. No yellow warblers yet or vireos which seems late to me. Probably I haven’t been paying enough attention.

I’m so glad to see an end to this week! I had such a horrible day at work yesterday and then today was such a nice day, thank heavens! I wish there were some way to balance out the bad with the good, some way to keep my client’s problems from becoming my problems, some way to keep it all on more of an even keel. I’ll figure that out in time, I suppose. That or I’ll have a nervous breakdown first!

Whatever. It’s the weekend and I’m glad for it. So… tell me your plans… Birds? Garden? Naps?

  1. Digging in red clay, humping rocks, and wishing I weren’t. Lots of birds around though – probably because of the water, feeders and remaining trees. Bluebirds, Grossbeaks, Cardinals, Carolina Wrens, Titmice, Blue Jays, Robins, Purple Finches, Goldfinches, Towhees, Various Sparrows, Doves, Grackles and a Red Tailed Hawk. There may be a coule of barred owls nesting nearby, I hear them whooping it up at night.

It’s dark, boring, and supposed to rain tommorrow, so I believe I’ll go out – again – in search of some place to have a beer that isn’t full of red-staters. Eh, maybe not.

  2. Going to a native plant sale, hanging out with an elderly relative, and I’m not sure what’s happening Sunday. Road work, maybe.

Tanagers, oriole, and g-c and Acadian flycatchers back today, but haven’t heard the red-eyed vireo yet.

  3. The weather will decide–if it rains, stay inside & vacuum. If it doesn’t rain, work outside–so much to do!

  4. Weekend Plans? Oxymoron!

Whatever on the list seems to be right!!!

Juncos pretty much have left, Goldfinches moving in!

  5. The Bunns took the words right out of my mouth! THEY will be doing what they always do …. eat, sleep, poo, sit and watch, go out, come in, eat, etc etc ….

  6. Also happy the week has come to a close! It has been rough! I will most likely spend most of Saturday cleaning the house in between peaks at the my Hummingbird Feeder anxiously awaiting my first visit! Sunday, the day I look forward to every week, will be spent birding! If only every day could be a Sunday!

  7. Hi laura – Just so you know, I referenced your blog in mine on Sat. re Sandy Hook Lighthouse. I believe you’re interested in it. (Twin Lights is my favorite.)

  8. Laura, I live for Fridays :o) And when Friday arrives, I rarely work a full day – no matter what is going on. In NC, we all tend to leave early on Fridays – most people call it a day after lunch. Nice!

I haven’t been paying attention to the birds, either. But I know I don’t have MigRANTS :o)

    Mary
